The YMCA was established in Llandovery in 1990 and in its present building since 1999. Our aim is to provide a safe social meeting place for young people, enabling them to take up or pursue their particular interests, strengthen their talents and abilities and help them explore spirituality.

Activities in the youth club (open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7.30 pm) include:

Sports such as pool, table tennis, rag hockey, football, rounders, cricket, football and ten pin bowling in Brecon.

Digilab which is used to create posters, photography, film, social networking, homework etc.

Multi-media studio for young people and local community members to record music and videos.

Kitchen in which all sorts of interesting dishes are produced and young people encouraged to experiment and try new foods.

Art Room - for paintings, modelling, craftwork, murals etc.

Garden at rear which has become an inter-generational project.

Health issues are explored in an informal enviroment.

An exciting programme of activities is published on a quarterly basis.

Bible Workshops are held on Sunday evenings at 6.00 pm where young people use multi-media, discussions, films, games and food to explore what the Bible has to say about our lives today.

During the year there are many outings and trips to take part in and we are always keen to link up with other youth clubs. We have an annual summer camp which is the highlight of the year.

In addition to the youth activities, Llandovery YMCA is used by a number of local community groups. In particular, Hafal and Towy Christian Fellowhip have their home in the building. Extra-curricular language courses are offered by Aberystwyth University and there is a Counselling service for the local community. Other groups use the building for special events, such as the annual Christian Aid shop and Rotary Club fundraising activities.

Each morning, a Drop In Centre is in operation for local people to access information, advice and signposting to other relevant organisations. There is also a Job Search facility to enable residents to access Job Centre Plus rather than travel the 40 mile round trip to the nearest Job Centre.

Llandovery YMCA is continually developing and aims to "fill the gap" in relation to needs in the community. We are always open to new possibilities through which we can serve the people of Llandovery.
